Our team
At Scotswood Village Nursery, we are proud to have a dedicated, experienced and caring team who work together to create a warm, welcoming environment where every child can feel happy, safe and confident.
Our team brings together many years of experience, a wide range of skills and, most importantly, a genuine passion for supporting children during those important early years.
Karen
Chris
Directors
Karen and Chris have been part of Scotswood Village Nursery for over 20 years and, between them, have more than 70 years of experience working with children – although you’d never believe it as they don’t look a day over 21!
Over the years, Karen and Chris have welcomed and supported many families through the nursery and have built strong, lasting relationships with children, parents and the wider community.
Although they no longer work full-time, Karen and Chris are still familiar faces in the nursery and remain very much part of the Scotswood Village Nursery family.
The people your child will get to know
Although each member of staff has their own particular role and responsibilities, we work closely together so that children become familiar and comfortable with all of the adults in our nursery.
Caroline is one of our managers and directors and leads our pre-school provision. She is also our qualified teacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo).
Caroline also holds the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings, an additional qualification she completed alongside Jen.
Before joining Scotswood Village Nursery, Caroline worked as a primary school teacher. She met Jen while they were training to become teachers, and they quickly discovered their shared passion for Early Years education.
Caroline and Jen originally joined the nursery intending to stay for a short time while their own children were young. Years later, they are still here – and very happily here to stay!
Jen is one of our managers and directors and leads our 2–3-year-old provision. She is also a qualified teacher and our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Jen also holds the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings, an additional qualification she completed alongside Caroline.
Like Caroline, Jen was previously a primary school teacher. Their shared passion for Early Years education led them to join Scotswood Village Nursery, where they have continued to develop and support the nursery community.
Jen is passionate about creating a nurturing environment where young children can develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.
Kathryn has been part of the Scotswood Village Nursery team since 2018.
She has a particular passion for supporting children with additional needs and works closely with children and their families to help them feel comfortable, confident and able to make progress during their time at nursery.
Kathryn also provides support and guidance to families of children with SEND and is always happy to offer a friendly face, a listening ear and practical support. Most importantly, Kathryn loves being part of nursery life and enjoys watching the children grow and develop.
Jill is our longest-serving member of staff, having worked at Scotswood Village Nursery for an amazing 37 years!
Jill is our creative, crafty and incredibly organised member of the team. She has a wonderfully calm nature, and the children love spending time with her.
With so much experience and knowledge of the nursery and the families who have been part of it over the years, Jill is a very special and valued member of our team. We really would be lost without her!
Sarah has been part of Scotswood Village Nursery since 2006 and works primarily with our 2-year-old children.
She has a real talent for helping our youngest children settle into nursery life, supporting them to feel safe, secure and confident in their new surroundings.
Having been at the nursery for so many years, Sarah has seen many families grow and develop through the nursery, and she has formed wonderful relationships with generations of children. Sarah also loves outdoor play and can often be found outside with the children – whatever the weather!
Helen is a valued volunteer at Scotswood Village Nursery and brings a wealth of experience from her previous work as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in a local primary school.
Helen has many years of experience working with children of different ages and enjoys being involved in a variety of activities at nursery.
She regularly leads yoga sessions with the children and also helps us with our gardening and growing activities, encouraging the children to explore the natural world and learn where food comes from.
Working together
We work closely together throughout the day so that children get to know and feel comfortable with all of the adults in the nursery. We believe this helps create a strong sense of security and belonging, while also ensuring that children benefit from the different skills, personalities and experiences that each member of our team brings.
Our aim is simple: to know every child, support every family and make every child feel happy, safe and valued.
